How do you gel?

How do you gel?

That is the question…

A modern interpretation of the “old school” styling gel, our Firm Hold Gel complements our hair care assortment for women and men with sensitive skin and scalp concerns. If you are looking for a firm hold with maximum control and sculpting, look no further.

This is ideal for transforming natural texture (i.e. curly to straight) or sculpting in a shape.

We asked our staff how they use it and what they love about it…

Sarah G.

My hair is usually very straight, but that changes when NYC humidity kicks in. The Firm Hold Gel tames the frizz and adds volume without drying my processed locks. I work a quarter-sized amount through dry hair, and I am good to go for the entire day.

I have a lot of hair, so I apply a liberal amount in three sections after towel blotting. I love it because it defines my curls with no crunchy feeling.

I use the Peppermint Shampoo and Cilantro Hair Conditioner in the shower, leaving the Cilantro Hair Conditioner in for texture.  I put in the Firm Hold Gel when I still have a wet head and then blow dry my hair to a light dampness.  I then comb my hair and head out for the day – 12 hours later, my hair’s still in place.

The Firm Hold Gel however gives me a more polished look for when I’m dressed up formally and am looking for that all day hold with a healthy shine. After washing my hair, I towel it dry but leave it slightly damp. Then I’ll run a little over a dime sized amount of the gel and work it through my hair. I’ll also blow dry everything in place if necessary.

The time has come for…vacation! I’m in Spain to celebrate my birthday and just life in general, and of course, I brought all my Malin+Goetz essentials. Here’s what I packed to keep me cleansed, hydrated and comfy.

  • Facial Cleansing Oil: My new favorite! Traveling sucks all the moisture from my skin and throws it off balance. What better way to rehydrate and cleanse than with our emulsifying cleansing oil? The avocado, grapeseed, and olive oil base hydrates, while eucalyptus and lavender kill bacteria and deeply cleanse. My skin is glowing and back to normal within hours of stepping off the plane.
  • SPF 30 Face Moisturizer: My porcelain skin needs daily sun protection. Especially on vacation when I’ll be outside every day. Our broad-spectrum SPF 30 hydrates and protects my skin from damage.
  • Peppermint Shampoo: This clarifying shampoo removes product, oil and dirt giving me a little pop at the root without drying out my processed locks.
  • Dark Rum + Vetiver Votives: These are my two favorite M+G candles and they make any hotel or airbnb feel like home.

Can I just stay here? <3

Personally, I think Valentine’s Day is about pampering the one I love most…ME. Here are some of my favorite pampering tips and M+G product pairs that you can indulge in solo, or with that special someone.

First, set the tone with candles. Two of my favorites are the Otto and Vetiver Candles. Otto has bright, floral notes, while vetiver is grassy and woodsy. When combined, these candles blend to create a garden-like scent.

Next, time to get steamy! Chamomile Oil and Rose Body Wash may not seem to be a conventional couple, but they create a surprising effect when paired together. Fill up the tub and add a few pumps of the Chamomile Treatment Oil and Rose Hand+Body Wash for a hydrating and soothing bath. The herbal chamomile and calming rose fragrances help me relax, and the nourishing properties of both the oil and body wash leave my skin soft.

The last step in my indulgent evening of pampering is simple – Vitamin B5 Body Moisturizer. This is hands down my favorite moisturizer. It keeps my skin dewy, plump and hydrated all day long. The fresh bergamot smell doesn’t linger so I can spritz on my favorite fragrance…which is the Moroccan Fig EDT, by the way.

Radiant Winter Skin

Freezing temperatures do not just mean heavier coats and scarves; they also mean dry, itchy, and flaky skin. Being a Southern transplant, I was really thrown for a loop when my normally oily skin actually became dry and flaky during my first intense New York winter. I learned the hard way, and now I start prepping my skin about a month before the colder temps hit with oils, serums, and heavier creams just to be safe. Here are my suggested steps to “winterproof” your skin.

First things first, I scale back to cleansing just once a day at night in these brutal winter months. I’ve also integrated the Facial Cleansing Oil into my nightly regimen. This deep pore cleansing oil has grapeseed, avocado, and olive oils to hydrate, and lavender and eucalyptus to kill bacteria and refresh. Just add water to emulsify and rinse clean! Bonus – this oil also removes a full face of makeup too.

My skin is left feeling clean, yet lightly hydrated. Next, I apply one pump of our Replenishing Face Serum. This 2% sodium hyaluronate serum draws moisture in deeper and is the perfect booster for your everyday moisturizer or night creams. Which leads me to my final step, a rich damage-repair focused night moisturizer that’s richer and loaded with lots of vitamins – our Replenishing Face Cream. On days that I’m super dry or really wanting to dose my skin with moisture, I add a pump of our Chamomile Treatment Oil to the Replenishing Face Cream.
