I’m so excited for the newest addition to our face category – the Clarifying Clay Mask. I have an oily/problematic skin type, so breakouts for me are inevitable. This gentle and hydrating clay mask uses kaolin clay to draw out impurities, while arnica and witch hazel calm and balance oil production. Personally, I love that afterwards my skin doesn’t feel completely stripped and tight, which is never a good sign. I’ve recently discovered that I have a heavy hand while applying masks, so I give it 10-15 minutes to dry before I then, BUFF IT OFF. That’s right; this guy has pumice in it too, so it serves as a scrub. To paraphrase, we now have an all-in-one Cleanser + Scrub + Deep Pore Cleanse.

It’s obvious why this product fits easily into my regimen, but dry/sensitive skin types can benefit from it as well.

Matthew has sensitive skin, and enjoys this mask’s deep cleanse and hydrating properties.

Pam has dry skin, and uses the masks as a clarifying deep pore cleanse once a month.

Jared has normal/combination skin and loves the balancing aspect of this mask.

Mr. Greenberg just enjoys the luxurious and soothing experience after a long day in the office. (Just kidding, the Clarifying Clay Mask is for human use only.)

Whether it’s from heavy makeup use, intense workouts at the gym, or hot NYC summers, all skin types suffer from congested pores and need a good deep cleanse every once in awhile. Thanks to the hydrating properties like sunflower extract, your skin will feel supple and soft.

The Benefits of Sage.

MALIN+GOETZ NEW Body Wash: Sage!   The same beloved natural scent found in our Sage Styling Cream, sage has astringent properties and antioxidants that protect skin from damage. Other benefits: increases blood circulation, relieves symptoms of eczema and psoriasis, stimulates cell renewal, encourages hair growth and minimizes hair loss.  Phew!  Next time you lather up or style your coif, remember that it’s not just about the delicious smell, but also your health.

Did you know?  We formulate for sensitive skin.  Each treatment is free of parabens, harsh detergents, dyes and synthetic fragrances. Our treatments are naturally-scented and while they smell beautiful our goal is therapeutic.  Like chemists from years ago, we use botanicals that serve a purpose.  I’m constantly impressed by their power and different uses.

Sage Body Wash Product Tips:  In those drier winter months, add a couple capfuls of Sage Body Wash to a warm bath to soothe dry, itchy skin and breathe in the invigorating herbal scent to help clear sinuses and relax your mind!

Step into Fall!

It’s time once again to bid adieu to summer. And while I won’t miss the sticky, humid days, where the thought of wearing my hair down and an ounce of makeup makes me want to crawl back in bed, I will miss dining al fresco and the sun setting at 9pm. Autumn is my favorite season – the bite in the air puts a pep in my step and there’s nothing I love more than a slouchy cardigan. The only complaint I have about the cooler weather is, my head-to-toe dry skin. So, not only does Fall require me to switch out my wardrobe, I also exchange my lightweight lotions for heavier creams and moisturizers to prepare my hide for the upcoming months. My favorite products to get me through the colder months are – Jojoba Face Scrub, Chamomile Treatment Oil, Replenishing Face Cream, Peppermint Body Scrub and Vitamin B5 Body Moisturizer. True story – I’ve been stopped on the street before to ask me what I use to get a glowing complexion… Obviously, MALIN+GOETZ!

Product Tips:

  • The Jojoba Face Scrub serves as a gentle every day cream cleanser. It puts hydration back in your skin.
  • I love warming one pump of the Chamomile Treatment Oil in my hands and pressing into my skin like a serum. The oil restores balance and gives my skin a great glow.
  • During winter months, the Replenishing Face Cream becomes my daily moisturizer. It’s the only thing that leaves my skin feeling hydrated and supple.
  • Some people are scared to exfoliate dry skin because they think it dries it out even more. This could not be farther from the truth! Gently exfoliating with the Peppermint Body Scrub removes the dry, dead skin and allows moisturizers to penetrate even deeper. You’re doing your scales well by scrubbing!
  • Right before I hop into my warm, cozy bed, I slather Vitamin B5 Body Moisturizer all over – don’t forget your feet! Honey and shea butter soothe my parched skin and vitamin b5 deeply hydrates and plumps collagen.

The Winter Blues! Turning the “WOE” into a “WOW!”

01.28.2013 | Posted by MALIN+GOETZ in Advice, Apothecary and Lab, Lifestyle, Locations, Products, Skin Conditions | No comments

The holiday season has come and gone. We ate our weight in potato pancakes for Hanukkah, Panettone Bread for Christmas and sipped a glass (or two) of bubbly to ring in the New Year. Now, if you’re like me, you’re thinking two things: Man, I have to get to the gym. And darn it, it’s the winter doldrums. For those of you who get to experience all four seasons like those of us in New York City, we all are feeling the winter blues and blahs.

At the first sign of winter I found myself running to New York’s mecca for affordable trendy clothing, Uniqlo, to get those high-tech, “Heat-tech” undergarments that keep you warm from the ferociously freezing cold days. Add a puffer jacket, silly looking wool hat, mittens that a four year-old would wear, and a cashmere scarf and I am ready to face New York’s most frigid and gray weather head on!

In my apartment, when the heat is on in full force, there’s snow on the ground, and I’m dreading my messy, morning commute to work, I found some ways to stay happily cozy, turning that frown upside down indeed! I have my Pandora radio streaming the greatest hits of Sade (I’m old school, if you’re not a fan of Sade, try some Adele!), hot cocoa with marshmallows in hand, and my face layered with my favorite go-to products from Malin + Goetz. Yes, to a product junkie such as myself, spa nights are a sure fire way to bring just as much comfort as Southern Comfort or for those who keep it non-alcoholic, as cozy as that mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows!

I suggest a Detox Face Mask, followed by a facial massage with the Malin+Goetz Replenishing Face Serum, finished with a mixture of equal parts of Replenishing Face Cream and the new Chamomile Treatment Oil. Moisture overkill? Not at all! I find that I do need more moisture during these colder times, so I opt for it all. I think it might even be time to light a Cannabis candle to get the maximum effect! (I don’t smoke Cannabis, but I hear this is the next best thing!

So all of you reading this from Miami to Malibu, I suggest you sip on a cocktail … and then light the appropriate Malin + Goetz candle. I say, let the intoxicating, refreshing scent of the Mojito candle permeate the room. For the rest of us caught up in dead of winter: Smile, do something good for yourself, meditate, do some yoga, try that recipe you always wanted to make, have that cup of hot cocoa and remember the days when you were a kid longing for these snowy days! Winter is here but before you know it, Spring will have Sprung and our winter woes will have just been a distant memory. Maybe it’s the Cannabis candle or the sounds of Sade, but I’m feeling serene now, and the weather outside – albeit frightful – is not so daunting anymore. It’s a time to relax, replenish and recharge our batteries because the warm, sunny days we are all longing for are soon to come!

Proof is in the Pudding: A Customer Testimonial

04.13.2012 | Posted by MALIN+GOETZ in Advice, Apothecary and Lab, Customer Stories, Products, Skin Conditions

We here at Malin+Goetz are constantly talking about the needs of sensitive skin, and how our products are especially suited to meet them. As the brand’s National Training Manager, I probably talk about this more than anybody – to the point where, as much as I hate to admit it, it can begin to loose a little meaning. It is for this very reason, that it is always great to receive testimonials from customers, such as the one below, to revive my spirit by reassuring me that I am not simply spreading hyperbole, but truly teaching people and spreading advice that is having an impact on people’s lives. If ever you were to think “sensitive skin first” may just be some mere marketing jargon, read on…

Wanted to write a quick note to let you know that after suffering a severe bout of acne at age 23-24, I was left with permanent rosacea after it cleared up. I had perfect skin before that, and am now 32 years old. I’ve struggled for years to find a product that would eliminate the redness on my chin, and finally found a somewhat magical combination in the Grapefruit Cleanser and Vitamin E Moisturizer.

After only using your face products for less than a month, I’ve noticed a huge difference. The redness is almost completely gone, and some clogged pores I had lingering around have cleared up as well. I am thrilled and plan to recommend your products to a couple friends who’ve had similar issues to mine.

To really measure the significance of this testimonial, lets be sure to first address what rosacea actually is. As many of you may already know, Matthew Malin himself personally suffers from rosecea, so this is a subject he is very familiar with and one of the main reasons Malin+Goetz exists in the first place. Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder characterized by dilated veins, redness, and occasionally, bumps and pustules. There is no cure and the medications must be carefully tailored to each case. The treatment is often trial and error – and different for each person. A good starting point is a less-is-more approach – including gentle, non-irritating skin care that will not interfere with any oral or topical medications. This is where Malin+Goetz comes in.

A fantastic face cleanser is the first step in any regimen. The Grapefruit Face Cleanser is a great place to start, as it gently yet thoroughly cleanses the skin and leaves the skin prepped for optimal moisture retention. For during the day, a light weight oil free (with SPF!) is key – try the M+G SPF 15 Face Moisturizer. Soothing chamomile calms the skin, panthenol repairs while SPF 15 protects and prevents.

In the evening it is time to break out the big guns, as the skin has the best opportunity to repair itself in the evening while we sleep. The Replenishing Face Cream, the latest addition to the M+G skin care arsenal, is quite simply, amazing. I know I may seem biased, but I’ve been a product junkie for years now – in addition to being insanely hydrating, this cream is especially healing and soothing for problematic skin. Jojoba oil allows the skin to breathe, while encouraging cell renewal helping to brighten the skin’s overall complexion; panthenol absorbs deeply into the skin, reduces inflammation and evens out the skin tone; and finally my favorite single ingredient in this product – avocado oil. Avocado Oil helps reduce age spots and heals sun damage and scars. It also increases collagen in the skin maintaining a firm, plump appearance. The thing I find so interesting about it though is that it is an oil that closely mimics the body’s own natural oil production, so it basically fools the body into thinking it has already produced enough oil. What this means is that even a more oily skin type can get the benefits of this beautiful treatment cream, without worry of their face feeling like an oil slick. That definitely gives one a whole new appreciation for guacamole!

So whether your skin be sensitive, oily, normal, blue or green, know that Malin+Goetz will fit seamlessly into your routine and lifestyle.
