We here at Malin+Goetz are constantly talking about the needs of sensitive skin, and how our products are especially suited to meet them. As the brand’s National Training Manager, I probably talk about this more than anybody – to the point where, as much as I hate to admit it, it can begin to loose a little meaning. It is for this very reason, that it is always great to receive testimonials from customers, such as the one below, to revive my spirit by reassuring me that I am not simply spreading hyperbole, but truly teaching people and spreading advice that is having an impact on people’s lives. If ever you were to think “sensitive skin first” may just be some mere marketing jargon, read on…

Wanted to write a quick note to let you know that after suffering a severe bout of acne at age 23-24, I was left with permanent rosacea after it cleared up. I had perfect skin before that, and am now 32 years old. I’ve struggled for years to find a product that would eliminate the redness on my chin, and finally found a somewhat magical combination in the Grapefruit Cleanser and Vitamin E Moisturizer.

After only using your face products for less than a month, I’ve noticed a huge difference. The redness is almost completely gone, and some clogged pores I had lingering around have cleared up as well. I am thrilled and plan to recommend your products to a couple friends who’ve had similar issues to mine.

To really measure the significance of this testimonial, lets be sure to first address what rosacea actually is. As many of you may already know, Matthew Malin himself personally suffers from rosecea, so this is a subject he is very familiar with and one of the main reasons Malin+Goetz exists in the first place. Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder characterized by dilated veins, redness, and occasionally, bumps and pustules. There is no cure and the medications must be carefully tailored to each case. The treatment is often trial and error – and different for each person. A good starting point is a less-is-more approach – including gentle, non-irritating skin care that will not interfere with any oral or topical medications. This is where Malin+Goetz comes in.

A fantastic face cleanser is the first step in any regimen. The Grapefruit Face Cleanser is a great place to start, as it gently yet thoroughly cleanses the skin and leaves the skin prepped for optimal moisture retention. For during the day, a light weight oil free (with SPF!) is key – try the M+G SPF 15 Face Moisturizer. Soothing chamomile calms the skin, panthenol repairs while SPF 15 protects and prevents.

In the evening it is time to break out the big guns, as the skin has the best opportunity to repair itself in the evening while we sleep. The Replenishing Face Cream, the latest addition to the M+G skin care arsenal, is quite simply, amazing. I know I may seem biased, but I’ve been a product junkie for years now – in addition to being insanely hydrating, this cream is especially healing and soothing for problematic skin. Jojoba oil allows the skin to breathe, while encouraging cell renewal helping to brighten the skin’s overall complexion; panthenol absorbs deeply into the skin, reduces inflammation and evens out the skin tone; and finally my favorite single ingredient in this product – avocado oil. Avocado Oil helps reduce age spots and heals sun damage and scars. It also increases collagen in the skin maintaining a firm, plump appearance. The thing I find so interesting about it though is that it is an oil that closely mimics the body’s own natural oil production, so it basically fools the body into thinking it has already produced enough oil. What this means is that even a more oily skin type can get the benefits of this beautiful treatment cream, without worry of their face feeling like an oil slick. That definitely gives one a whole new appreciation for guacamole!

So whether your skin be sensitive, oily, normal, blue or green, know that Malin+Goetz will fit seamlessly into your routine and lifestyle.

Now that it appears as if spring is here to stay in New York City, I’m excited to change up my daily wardrobe. I shaved the beard I had been sporting all winter, broke out a brightly colored shirt to wear to work and am just looking to generally lightening things up – including my daily fragrance. Wearing a fragrance daily is just as essential to me as is wearing a fresh pair of knickers! However, one can’t wear just any fragrance any time. Just like you wouldn’t wear a wool blazer in the middle of July, you also wouldn’t wear a fragrance with notes such as sandalwood or black pepper.

Spring is an optimistic time. The days are longer, flowers are blooming and as such, your fragrance should feel equally as bright, fresh and uplifting. For me, one go to fragrance from early spring through mid-September is the Lime Tonic by M+G – a crisp and clean scent that feels appropriate to wear no matter how high the temperature goes or whether you find yourself partying on a roof top in the city or hanging with friends at the beach.

The real beauty of the Lime Tonic and every other fragrance by M+G is that while each is distinctly beautiful on it’s own, they can be paired together to create a uniquely dynamic personal fragrance. For day time I love pairing the Lime + Petigrain Tonics; a bright, succulent blend of citrus, woodsy and green notes. When the sun goes down and it’s time to really play, I want a warmer more sensual scent, but never anything that’s going to be cloying or overwhelming. For this, I take the warm and sexy Rum Tonic and lighten it up with a light spritz of Lime Tonic; all coming together to create a truly unique fragrance that definitely draws people closer to figure out just what you are wearing.

Experiment with different blends and see what feels the most authentic and you. The point is to have fun with it!

For nearly 8 years now, Malin+Goetz has been a cult favorite among the hip and fashion forward among us from around the globe. Our products are carried in uber cool shops, salons and department stores around the world; however to get the true Malin+Goetz experience one would have to come into one of only two freestanding retail stores in New York City. Well, the pursuit of our unique experience is about to get a little bit easier for many with the launch of Malin+Goetz Los Angeles.

Situated on charming Larchmont Blvd. in the historic and prestigious Hancock Park area, Brooklyn based architect Andrew Bernheimer has designed an environment that reflects the laid back vibrancy of the city while maintaining the neighborhood apothecary feel for which we have become known – 3,000 miles away from where it all began. Andrew Bernheimer has designed award-winning residential projects, commercial spaces and institutional projects.

We here at Malin+Goetz aren’t going to pretend that 48 degrees is tropical weather, but when it’s 48 degrees in February in New York, it may as well be. Since that trusty little groundhog said spring is right around the corner anyway, why not make it feel a bit more like it? Unless you’re one of those lucky New Yorkers who has access to an indoor pool, you’re probably not breaking out the swimwear just yet. But have no fear, there are some products you can use to put you in the Springtime spirit! The Malin+Goetz Mojito Candle ($52) is a great way to waft away the winter blues and summon the feeling of the tropics to your home or apartment. The middle notes of spearmint and Chinese mint, and base notes of white musk bring to the olfactory senses the sure feeling that warmer days are ahead! Pair with our innovative Dark Rum candle for the true effect. This dynamic duo is the perfect way to start waving goodbye to scarves and gloves, and hello to tropical afternoons, and your favorite pair of boating shoes.

Valentine’s Day. Whether you consider it to be the most romantic day of the year, the most depressing, or a ridiculous commercial creation, everyone secretly hopes to have a special someone to spend the day (and more importantly, the night) with. Mostly people would probably agree with me that the difference between a great date and a disaster can be something as simple as a kiss. Before technique and the perfect head tilt, the lips lay the foundation for a truly mind blowing kiss. Therefore, it’s essential to make your lips as irresistible as possible. One of the best ways to help do this is to exfoliate them. You already (hopefully!) exfoliate your face and body, so why not your lips? Valentine’s Day falls right in the middle of the bleakest part of winter, when lips are dry and chapped – and sometimes lip moisturizer just isn’t enough. The Jojoba Face Scrub by Malin+Goetz is perfect for such a job. It’s gentle, yet superbly effective. While you’re exfoliating your face simply purse those lips and spend a couple of extra seconds gently going over them in a circular motion (hint: something I love to do to up the ante is add a little bit of the M+G Peppermint Body Scrub). Once you rinse off, just apply a light layer of Lip Moisturizer and you’re good to go. Your lips will be impossibly soft and supple – sure to encourage lingering!

Here’s hoping cupid’s arrow finds all of you – there’s still a week left!
