I’m so excited for the newest addition to our face category – the Clarifying Clay Mask. I have an oily/problematic skin type, so breakouts for me are inevitable. This gentle and hydrating clay mask uses kaolin clay to draw out impurities, while arnica and witch hazel calm and balance oil production. Personally, I love that afterwards my skin doesn’t feel completely stripped and tight, which is never a good sign. I’ve recently discovered that I have a heavy hand while applying masks, so I give it 10-15 minutes to dry before I then, BUFF IT OFF. That’s right; this guy has pumice in it too, so it serves as a scrub. To paraphrase, we now have an all-in-one Cleanser + Scrub + Deep Pore Cleanse.

It’s obvious why this product fits easily into my regimen, but dry/sensitive skin types can benefit from it as well.

Matthew has sensitive skin, and enjoys this mask’s deep cleanse and hydrating properties.

Pam has dry skin, and uses the masks as a clarifying deep pore cleanse once a month.

Jared has normal/combination skin and loves the balancing aspect of this mask.

Mr. Greenberg just enjoys the luxurious and soothing experience after a long day in the office. (Just kidding, the Clarifying Clay Mask is for human use only.)

Whether it’s from heavy makeup use, intense workouts at the gym, or hot NYC summers, all skin types suffer from congested pores and need a good deep cleanse every once in awhile. Thanks to the hydrating properties like sunflower extract, your skin will feel supple and soft.

Where in the world is M+G… Best Barber, New York

07.09.2015 | Posted by MALIN+GOETZ in Lifestyle, Locations | No comments

MALIN+GOETZ works with so many interesting and unique partners worldwide. We are excited to pull back the curtain a little and share some of their stories. This month we are highlighting Best Barber located right here in New York. The owner, Boswell, is a longtime supporter of ours, and didn’t hesitate to bring our brand into his very own barbershop. Read on to hear more about Boswell and his shop.

  1. Your hair philosophy or mantra is…

The solution to most of life’s problems can be found by listening. This is true of hair too. Your hair will tell you everything you need to know about it if you just listen. If you don’t know how to speak the language, a talented barber/stylist can translate for you.

  1. If you weren’t a barber, you would be…

I would be an interior designer. Since I was a child I have always had the impulse to redesign almost any space I enter.  Efficiency being my most valued design attribute.

  1. Your all-time favorite restaurant in NYC…

El Almacén in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It’s a family owned and operated Argentinian joint. Get a table in the backyard or sit at the bar, order anything on the menu and be delighted.

  1. In a busy city like NY, you unwind by…

Taking day trips! One of may most often taken day trips is to Beacon, NY. It’s home to one of my favorite art museums, Dia:Beacon. There is also shopping and dining on Main Street, great hiking, and camping at Malouf’s Mountain. Fire Island isn’t bad either.

  1. Who should get their hair cut at Best Barber (describe your customer)?

Literally anyone who wants a great barbered haircut. I have assembled a team, that collectively, can do anything!

  1. Whiskey or Wine?

Whiskey! Followed by a chaser of pickle brine, a/k/a Pickleback.

  1. Describe your ideal day off in the city.

Brunch at Nights and Weekends in Greenpoint, sunbathing in McCarren Park with a copy of New York Magazine, then a movie at NiteHawk Cinema.

  1. What’s the craziest/most regrettable hairstyle you’ve ever rocked?

As someone born and raised in Florida, I “rocked” a rattail for quite some time.

  1. What’s your sign?

Capricorn: responsible, patient, ambitious, resourceful, loyal and practically perfect in every way; like Mary Poppins.

  1. Ok, we have to ask, the M+G product you can’t live without is…

Rice Bran Eye Moisturizer! As a small business owner (and someone over the age of 25), an effective eye cream is absolute priority.

How do you gel?

How do you gel?

That is the question…

A modern interpretation of the “old school” styling gel, our Firm Hold Gel complements our hair care assortment for women and men with sensitive skin and scalp concerns. If you are looking for a firm hold with maximum control and sculpting, look no further.

This is ideal for transforming natural texture (i.e. curly to straight) or sculpting in a shape.

We asked our staff how they use it and what they love about it…

Sarah G.

My hair is usually very straight, but that changes when NYC humidity kicks in. The Firm Hold Gel tames the frizz and adds volume without drying my processed locks. I work a quarter-sized amount through dry hair, and I am good to go for the entire day.

I have a lot of hair, so I apply a liberal amount in three sections after towel blotting. I love it because it defines my curls with no crunchy feeling.

I use the Peppermint Shampoo and Cilantro Hair Conditioner in the shower, leaving the Cilantro Hair Conditioner in for texture.  I put in the Firm Hold Gel when I still have a wet head and then blow dry my hair to a light dampness.  I then comb my hair and head out for the day – 12 hours later, my hair’s still in place.

The Firm Hold Gel however gives me a more polished look for when I’m dressed up formally and am looking for that all day hold with a healthy shine. After washing my hair, I towel it dry but leave it slightly damp. Then I’ll run a little over a dime sized amount of the gel and work it through my hair. I’ll also blow dry everything in place if necessary.

Memorial Day weekend officially kicks off summer – woo! I’ve been so distracted by the cold that I forgot what all Spring and Summer bring… Warmer weather means rooftop bars, beach days, picnics and…weekends out of the city. Who doesn’t love running full speed ahead out of this hot concrete jungle?

Mini vacays equal packing (ugh) and if you are going to stay with friends or family, it also means hostess gifts. Thankfully, I have a plethora of beautiful gift ideas at my fingertips so I’m never without ideas, but not everyone has that pleasure so I’m here to help!

Here’s my list of foolproof gifts –

Rum Hand and Body Wash + Vitamin B5 Body Lotion + Dark Rum Votive Candle ($72)

Rosemary Body Wash + Peppermint Body Scrub + Vitamin B5 Body Moisturizer ($92)

Bergamot Body Wash + Vitamin B5 Moisturizer + Peppermint Shampoo ($146)
