Position Human Resources Manager

(MALIN+GOETZ) is a fast-growing, twelve year-old family-operated unisex skincare business based in New York City. We operate eight flagship apothecaries in NYC, LA, and London; www.malinandgoetz.com and international luxury distribution at +600 accounts that include Barneys, Bloomingdales, Space NK and amenities with the Morgan’s Hotel Group, Barry’s Bootcamp, and Delta Airlines.

Summary:

This newly developed role of Human Resources Manager offers complete oversight and a key entrepreneurial opportunity for a dynamic, take-charge people-person. Working closely with our small and expanding executive team, this role includes a strategic focus for building our HR infrastructure to achieve targeted growth plans while remaining sensitive to our strong culture and historical values, those that have made our brand successful for the past twelve years. The HR Manager is the sole employee responsible for all human resource functions for our seventy-person-and-growing organization.

General Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition and Onboarding

  • Lead hiring function for our growing, 20 person corporate office (estimated five employees/year).
  • Co-lead selection process with position managers to source, hire, and on-board all new sales associates (estimated 25 employees/year).
  • Partner with United Kingdom Country Manager in London with hiring for our two retail stores (opening in May 2016) and staff of eight (growing) employees to assist third party department stores.

Administration, Payroll and Compliance

  • Maintain all personnel files, including payroll, legal, benefit and other new-hire paperwork, performance reviews and disciplinary paperwork for all employees.
  • Administer bi-weekly payroll; including monitoring 50 hourly employees, and general bonus/incentive administration.
  • Administer time-off tracking including vacation and sick time for salaried employees and PTO for hourly employees.

Compensation and Benefits Strategy and Planning

  • Negotiate all company benefits with outside vendors.
  • Act as a liaison between employees and benefit providers.
  • Partner with VP of Finance to develop incentive plans for both corporate and retail employees.

Talent Development

  • Work with executive management to build and develop a corporate team who will triple the business size in three years.
  • Work with retail managers to design and manage a career development program for all staff, with a focus on grooming retail managers (for both Malin+Goetz free standing stores and third party department stores) for a high-growth retail organization.

Skills/Experience/Education

  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite preferred, especially Excel.
  • 5+ years of generalist human resource management experience, preferably in a retail environment and/or the beauty industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Position Retail Manager
Supervisor Director of Retail Sales - East

The Retail Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of three Malin+Goetz retail locations in New York City. The Retail Manager works with corporate headquarters to ensure that all company directives are executed within expectation, with the intent to maximize sales, profitability, and the customer experience. The Retail Manager position serves as a progression step to take on a larger sales and leadership role within our growing organization.

General Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, hire and develop all store associates.
  • Work with Education Department to ensure the staff is well-versed in the brand and has a thorough understanding of understanding of our products.
  • Lead as an ambassador of the Malin+Goetz brand in the New York City area.
  • Monitor sales performance on a daily, weekly and season basis and lead team to deliver on store targets.
  • Report on in-store trends, business opportunities, customer profile, and training opportunities.
  • Foster a harmonious positive work environment and provide a safe, clean and inviting environment for our customers and associates.
  • Analyze sales data, trends, and goals by store, associate and SKU.
  • Work with Design team to implement store visuals and merchandising in line with corporate guidelines.

Staff Management:

  • Set weekly schedule for ten to twelve store associates.
  • Review and approve all store associate time sheets.
  • Manage vacation requests and troubleshoot all scheduling conflicts/no-shows/time out requests.
  • Manage performance reviews for all store associates and make salary increases and promotion recommendations to corporate office.

Operational Duties:

  • The Retail Manager acts as the leader for three retail locations and serves as the emergency contact and must be accessible to all store associates at all times.
  • Ensure store is clean, shop ready and open for business at the appropriate time.
  • Secure merchandise by implementing security systems and loss prevention techniques.
  • Manage weekly bank deposits and transportation of cash from register to safe to deposit.
  • Work with Retail Operations Manger to ensure weekly or bi-weekly inventory orders provide adequate levels of inventory without overstocking.
  • Work with accounting department to ensure accurate inventory records and lead quarterly physical inventory count.
  • Research and communicate any discrepancies with cash balances or inventory records.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent and proper lifting of up to 40 lbs.
  • Frequent walking and standing, and occasionally climbing, using a ladder or step stool.

Skills/Experience/Education

  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite preferred, especially Excel.
  • Strong experience and aptitude with Point-of-Sale (POS) computer systems.
  • Minimum one year of management experience in a retail environment required, preferably in the beauty industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
