Kiehl's alum Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz, a veteran of furniture design company Vitra, have had a great partnership for over 10 years, so becoming partners in business felt like a natural step. Their skin and hair care company, Malin & Goetz, which launches this month in its own store in New York's Chelsea, is a manifestation of the couple's shared aesthetic: clean, simple and effective. "People live such complicated lives," says Goetz. "We wanted our products to be very simple and beautiful, which is a fusion of our two worlds--design and product." With straightforward graphics and fragrance-and dye-free formulations, the 11-item line is designed to appeal to a variety of consumers, male and female. "It was important that the products said, 'You can use the same thing, you can shop together'" says Malin. So what makes Malin & Goetz different from other unisex brands? "We wanted to do something modern and advanced but simple at the same time," says Malin. "There's nothing traditional about what we're doing." The line ranges in price from $12 for a lip balm to $45 for a facial moisturizer and will be sold in C.O. Bigelow Apothecary, Studio at Fred Segal and Liberty London come February. First-year sales are expected to hit $500,000 to $700,000.
